Going Out With Your Baby? You Must Carry This In Your Diaper Bag!

Getting ready to go out with our baby can sometimes be quite a challenge, not only because we have to get him/her ready, get ourselves ready, but also because we have to get the diaper bag ready; that’s why we’re going to tell you what are the essential items that you should carry in your diaper bag when you go out with your baby, the necessary items, so that you don’t get too carried away, but so that you don’t end up missing something.

Ideally, you should be as comfortable as possible. It is not practical to go out with a thousand things just “just in case.” It is best to be as relaxed as possible and only take what is necessary. But how do you know what is necessary? We are going to tell you here, especially if you are a first-time parent and you are thinking of going out for the first time with your baby and alone.

What to Pack in Your Diaper Bag When You Go Out with Your Baby?

It all depends on how long you plan to be away, for example, if you are visiting relatives and plan to spend the whole day there, if you are visiting a friend and will only be there for a few hours, or if you are going to a shopping centre where you will probably be there for a couple of hours.

Although time is relative, there are essential things that you should always have in your diaper bag and depending on the time only the quantity changes (for example, in the case of diapers); but in general terms we recommend that you always pack:

Indispensable

1. Diapers. How many? It depends on how long you’re going to be out. If it’s your first time out, it means your baby is still very small. It’s recommended that newborns have their diaper changed every 2 or 3 hours, and every 4 hours at the most.

So, calculate how long it will take you and how many diapers you will need, plus an extra pair in case of accidents. Either way, this first trip will help you know how much to bring next time.

2. Wet wipes. If you are going to change a diaper (especially because he or she pooped), it is essential to clean his or her bottom with wet wipes. In this case, we recommend having a small spare, ideal for carrying in your purse, as they are smaller and therefore do not weigh as much. Keep in mind that you will be carrying your baby and the diaper bag.

3. Bottom cream. If you use it regularly, it should not be missing, even if it is only for one day. The baby’s skin is still very delicate and any change can cause irritation . Just like with the wipes, you can have a smaller cream to carry in your diaper bag; they are usually small so it does not make much of a difference in your bag, but it does make a difference on the baby’s bottom.

4. Extra clothes. The baby can vomit at any time or have an accident with his diaper, in which case it is best to always carry a change of clothes , along with several bibs. The change can be basic clothes such as a bodysuit, shirts, pants, socks and shoes; it also depends on each family; if you see that the baby frequently soils a lot of clothes, you should also pack a sweater or jacket.

5. Milk. In this case it depends, if you give your baby formula then you will have to pack the milk and the bottle, or simply prepare the bottle at home and bring it with you. If you breastfeed, then we recommend that you bring the accessories that you normally use, for example, a cloth to clean the nipple (baby wipes can leave an odor) or nursing pads.

6. Bags. These are very useful because you can store dirty diapers or dirty or wet clothes there without them getting the rest of the diaper bag dirty.

7. Blanket. This is another essential item that doesn’t really go in the diaper bag, but it should always be there when you go out with your baby, even if you’re going to be inside a house. The blanket can also help you put the baby on top of you when you’re going to change him or to cover yourself if you’re going to breastfeed him in public and you feel uncomfortable.

Optional

8. Diaper changing mat. If, for example, you are going in a private car, you can also bring a diaper changing mat or a blanket where you can change your baby without any problem. Imagine if you go to a shopping center, although the bathrooms are usually already equipped with changing tables, it will not be the same as bringing your own, it will be more hygienic and comfortable for the baby.

9. Training cup. This is recommended for older children who are already potty training and learning to use the toilet .

10. Pacifier. If your baby is used to using a pacifier , we recommend that you carry a spare one in the diaper bag. Pacifiers usually fall on the floor, and at home you would normally take it to be disinfected. However, outside, the best and most practical thing to do is to keep it and give him the spare one.
